Description

Makikihi is home to the well-known Makikihi French fires, although the original Maori name was once Makkini, meaning murmuring stream or stream of cicadas. The town has a crafts store, hotel, service station and plant nursery to cater for the passing visitor. A café further along State Highway One provides local berry products.
