Lake Tekapo is a lake known for its scenery, outdoor activities and hydro-electric power generation. On its south-eastern side is Lake Alexandrina. The Gammack Range and the Aoraki Mount Cook are situated to the east, while Two Thumb Range is situated to the northwest.
Tourist attractions in the area include flights over Mount Cook National Park, local bird sancturies, skiing and lake-based activities. According to the AA What to See and Do Guide, the area claims to have the cleanest air in the southern hemisphere.
