Lake Ohau Alpine Village is situated on the south-eastern side of Lake Ohau. Lake Ohau Road leads north from the village along the lake's eastern side and east to State Highway 8. Another minor road follows the lake's western side. Lake Ohau is a deep lake surrounded by contrasting high mountainous ranges. To the east is the Barrier Range and to the west is the Ben Ohau Range. Vast sheep stations surround the lake.
