Description

The town is located north of the Waitakere Ranges at the southern point of the Kaipara Harbour in the Kaipara River Valley. To the north-west and west of Helensville is Woodhill Forest and Shelly Beach.

Helensville is located north of Auckland on State Highway 16, beyond Kumea, Huapai, Waimauku, Rewiti, Woodhill and Wharepapa.

Helensville was named after Helen McLeod, the wife of pioneer John McLeod. The Helensville Pioneer Museum and the local courthouse present the pioneer heritage and are open for a short period each day.

The area is full of fun outdoor activities including the local Helensville District Gold Club, local natural thermal pools, fishing spots, cruises in the Kaipara Habour and various walks within the Woodhill Forest.
