Description

Howick is a coastal suburb of Manukau rich in history. The suburb is named after Earl Grey's residence of Howick Hall. Of note is the popular tourist attraction Howick Historical Village and the Howick Shopping Village that both illustrate the European and Mäori history of this settlement.

Howick Shopping Village offers specialty stores, cafes and restaurants, with a mix of old and new buildings. Within a 35-minute ferry ride from Auckland City, Howick Village promotes itself as a leisurely alternative to the busy Auckland Central Business District. It offers a variety of leisure activities that provide amazing scenery and historical insight.

Howick Historical Village is an award-winning restored early European settlement. This 'living museum' protrays the period of European settlement from 1840 to 1880. The Village is popular among tourists and also offers fascinating school trips with school classes and games from the period and triweekly Sunday themed days. Situated nearby is the Homestead Cafe.
