Description

Glenbrook is situated on the Waikato River and was previously known as Packington after the British Colonial Secretary in the 1850's. New Zealand Steel Ltd.'s steelmaking factory has put the town on the map and uses the Waikato River's ironsand resources. The town earns its name from a nearby brook.

Glenbrook Village Railway provides visitors with a historic 12km steam train ride along the old Waiuku branch line and is a popular Glenbrook attraction. It is sign-posted from Drury on the main road to Waiuku and is open during the mid-summer from December 26, and on Sundays and long weekends throughout the year.
