Biography

Smith, Sir Charles Kingsford (1897 - 1935) was born in Brisbane (Hamilton). He was an aviation pioneer and with Charles Ulm in 1927 completed a record flight around Australia. In 1928 he made the first air crossing of the Pacific Ocean in his plane the 'Southern Cross'. The 'Southern Cross' is now proudly displayed in a prupose built building on the entrance road to the Brisbane Airport.
