Hinkler, Herbert John Louis (1892-1933) was born in Bundaberg. One of Australia's first aviators. Saw service in the Royal Naval Air Service in World War One. He was the first to fly solo from England to Australia (London to Darwin) in 1928. He also flew across the South Atlantic an heroic navigation achievement.
