Major Events - 1988 Exposition

World Expo '88 went from 30 April till 30 October 1988. Queenslanders and other made more than 14 million vists to the site.

The international exposition was a mile stone for Brisbane's development leading to the whole southside of the city reaches of the river being redeveloped and continuing to be so in 2004. Now known as Southbank, the 'Expo' site has been in constant redevelopment since 1988 into parkland, commercial and residential areas.

Major Events - 1982 Commonwealth Games

Brisbane hosted the XII Commonwealth Games at various venues throughout Brisbane. They were opened by Prince Charles and closed by Queen Elizabeth II on 9 October 1982.
