Overview

The Queensland Art Gallery has more than 10 000 Australian and international paintings, sculptures, decorative art objects and works on paper.

The largest component of the collection focuses on Australian art dating back to the early colony. Early works include those of John Peter Russell and Rupert Bunny, plus works from the Art Nouveau, Edwardian salon and Post-Impressionist movements. Contemporary Queensland art is a intentional focus including significant indigenous collections of Australian art.

European and British works feature and include those of Giambologna, Tintoretto, Rubens, van Dyck, Romney, Degas, Picasso and Soutine as well as eighteenth century British portraits and French works.
