Richmond is the third largest city in the state of Virginia. It is the state capital. According to the United States Census Burea the population in 2000 was 197,790. The census bureau esimated the population to be 194,729 in 2003.

The city is a part of the Richmond metro area. It is the the seat of Henrico county. It has an area of 60.1 square miles. Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Richmond, Virginia Union University and J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College are in Richmond. Many local historic sites including the Confederate Capitol are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Richmond International airport serves the city. Highways 64 and 95 pass through Richmond. The Jackson River and James River are near or in the city.
