Summer 2000 - Texas Drought The worst drought ever recorded in Texas, broke records set during the dustbowl. Austin had 41 days of at least 100º f weather and reached a record high temperature of 112º f.
May 24, 1981 - Memorial Day FloodThirteen people drowned and $36 million in damages occurred. Shoal Creek normally flows at 90 gallons per minute, but peaked during this flood at 6 million gallons/minute.
April 24, 1957 - The Day of the Big CloudA powerful storm began 32 days of rain, resulting in flooding all across Austin and Central Texas.
May 4, 1922 - Dueling TornadoesTwo tornadoes simultaneously swept through different portions of Austin, killing thirteen persons inflicting damage of $350,000.
April 7, 1900 - The Day the Dam BrokeMcDonald Dam was destroyed, sending a wall of water down the Colorado River which killed dozens. The river peaked at 60' high.
