The city is a part of the Chattanooga metro area. It is the the seat of Hamilton county. It has an area of 135.2 square miles. University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Tennessee Temple University and Chattanooga State Technical Community College are in Chattanooga. Moccasin Bend Archeological District is a local site listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
