Lexington

Lexington is the 2nd largest city in the state of Kentucky. According to the United States Census Burea the population in 2000 was 260,512. The census bureau esimated the population to be 266,798 in 2003. According to this estimate, the city is gaining population at a rate of 0.59% per year.

The city is a part of the Lexington-Fayette metro area. It is the the seat of Fayette county government. It has an area of 284.5 square miles. The city and county have a consolidated city-county government. The Federal Information Processing Standards location code (FIPS55) for this city is 2146027.

Ashland (Henry Clay Home), Keeneland Race Course and Old Morrison, Transylvania College are local sites listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Blue Grass airport serves the city. Boone Creek is in or near the city.
