Boise is the state capital of Idaho and capital of Ada County, lcated in southwestern Idaho, along the Boise river.

The gold rush brought an influx of residents to Boise. A military post was established in 1863. Boise became territorial capital in 1864. The development of irrigation resulted in a shift from mining to farming.

Major industries include food processing, manufacturing of paper and wood products, and technology.

Boise is home to Boise State University.
