Arizona is a state in the Western United States. The capital of Arizona is Phoenix. It is in the Mountain census region. It has a surface area of 113,998 square miles, and only 0.32% of the surface area is covered by water. Arizona has an arid steppe and desert climate. Although it is the sixth largest state in area, it ranks forty-ninth in the total amount of surface water among the fifty states.
To the north is Utah; to the east is New Mexico. The state is bordered on the south by Mexico and by California and Nevada to the west. The highest point in the state is Humphreys Peak with an elevation of 12,633 feet.
Bisbee, Arizona was once the largest city between Saint Louis and San Francisco. Located in Tombstone Canyon, it was known as the Queen of the Copper Mines.
The Grand Canyon is in Northwest Arizona. This gorge is drained by the Colorado River and is a mile deep in places. It is considered to be one of the seven natural wonders of the world.
