Overview

The goals of the UV monitoring in the Netherlands are the following:

1) Knowledge of the present biologically relevant UV climate and its dependence on atmospheric conditions

2) Validation of atmospheric UV radiative transfer models

3) Determiniation of long-term trends in the biolgically relevant UV climate using both measurements and model calculations. Daily, weekly, monthly and yearly totals of spectral UV are calculated along with biologically weighted UV.

The one monitoring site contains ancillary measurements including aerosol profiles, ozone profiles, temperature, humidity and cloud measurements. This one monitoring site contains all three instruments in a mobile container. The addition of two more SL501s has taken place. The first one is located with the mobile unit. The second is located in Bilthoven. A second set-up (identical to the first: consisting of the same three instruments) is planned to be mounted on top of one of the buildings of RIVM. As of yet, only the DILOR XY-50 and the SL501 have been installed. One thing to note is that the first of the new 501s (the one with the mobile unit) is currently taking part in an intercomparison of RB meters organized by STUK in Finland in collaboration with WMO.
