The country is an island created by a large series of eruptions along the atlantic ridge faults, these eruptions are continuing and every few years a volcanic eruption happens either on or around the country. It unusually young or only about 100 thousand years old or so. The Atlantic ridge splits the country into 2 parts so teclically the eastern side of the country is in Europe and the western side is in America.
