The Solar and Ozone Observatory (SOO) of the Czech Hydro-meteorological Institute (CHMI) has started a UVB monitoring program in the Czech Republic. The network of three 501s was scheduled to be completed by the end of 1995 and regular measurements were scheduled to begin on January 1, 1996. The three meters will be placed at the Solar and Ozone Observatory in Hradec Kralove, the Background Observatory Kosetice, and the Observatory Milesovka. In addition, they also have a Brewer MKIV (#098) which has been in operation since Jan. 1, 1994. The Brewer is a reference instrument and has been calibrated with external standard UVB lamps and regularly compared with the SCI-TEC traveling standard and the German group of Brewers. This Brewer will be used to calibrate the three RB501s which will be in operation at the beginning of next year. In the past, they also had two Eppley TUVR radiometers at SOO. These instruments showed fast changes of optical characteristics which they believe to be the result of significant decreases of the spectral transmissivity of the filters with age. Due to a lack of spare parts, measurements were stopped on Dec. 31, 1989.
