Mission

The office's mission consists of controlling the economic regulations that aim at protecting the consumer and preserving fair trade practices among sellers.
This mission has a preventive as well as a repressive character.

Another aspect is the enforcement of the Belgian economic regulations, adjusted to community standards such as the legislation on trade practices, on consumer protection, on practicing a trade, on price regulations, on consumer credit, on products quality and safety, on fair competition.

At the European level there is the control on the application of the common organization of certain markets.

The Administration for Economic Inspection consists of 3 divisions:

two central services : organization and co-ordination
three specialized services operating from Brussels headquarters
the decentralized services : 7 regional offices, each responsible for a part of the country.
