Media in Turkmenistan is totally under control of the government. Even if there was some effort to open private TV channels between 1995-1999, currently there is no private media owners in the region. Exceptions are some minor publishers like some journals comming from ITTU (International Turkmen Turkish University), "Afisha" paper containing weekly TV schedule for russian channels and a few others.
Turkmenistan government has more than 20 nationwide and local newspapers, about 10 magazines, and 3 TV channels (in 2004 government signed an agreemnt with foreign companies to open forth TV channel).
