Thailand is divided to 76 provinces which are grouped into 5 groups , central ,north,east,west,south and northeast.
Each province is divided into districts - as of 2006 there are 796 districts or amphur , 81 minor districts and 50 districts of Bangkok (called - khet). Each of the provinces has one capital district (amphur mueng), e.g. for Chiang Mai it's Amphoe Mueang Chiang Mai. The exception is Ayutthaya, where both the province as well as the central district have the full name Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya.
The capital city of Thailand is Bangkok ,or Thai people call it " Krung thep maha nakorn" or "Krung Thep"
