General Information

Cats might be considered on the lower end of the pet maintainence field. Being relatively clean animals with adaptable toilet habits, they are able to integrate smoothly into a family's household. However, all cats still require a moderate amount of basic caregiving and social interaction to be healthy, happy creatures.

Food

Being decendants of desert-dwelling animals, cats drink much less water than other animals and therefore concentrate their urine. This makes access to fresh water important - probably more important even than food as it needs it to both clean the system and flush the kidneys. Lack of water for an extended period of time can cause kidney damage.

Cats are true carnivores, meaning that they cannot produce taurine (an essential amino acid) but must ingest it in their food. In nature, this would be found in the meat that they eat. Therefore, all food given to cats MUST contain meat or meat by-products; an vegtable dominated/exclusive diet in not appropritate. Lowered levels of taurine can result in blindness.

Like humans, some cats may be sensitive to some ingredients or additives and this sensitivity may result in gastric upset.
