General Information

The Colorpoint Shorthair was developed with the concept of reproducing the Siamese in a variety of colors, with the coloration still restricted to the extremities (paws, tail, ears, and nose). Breeders introduced colors by breeding Siamese to domestic shorthairs. These kittens are still born completely white with their coloring coming in later.

Please refer to the profile on the Siamese for additional information on the general history, appearance, and demeanor of the breeds.

Colors

12 to 16 colors and patterns are available in the Colorpoint Shorthair, depending on the registering body a color is shown in. Breed and color determination may be blurred among registries worldwide. The only colors that some registries (such as CFA in the US) do not allow are the four traditional Siamese color (chocolate, seal, blue, and lilac). Red and cream points are shown as Siamese in the GCCF in the UK and Colorpoint Shorthairs in CFA. Lynx points (coloration in a tabby pattern) and tortie points (seal and red or blue and cream colors mottled together in a tortoiseshell pattern) are almost universially recognized as Colorpoints. (TICA groups all pointed cats in this family together as Siamese.)
