United States of America

The United States of America was started when a group of people signed an agreement called the Treaty of Paris in the year of 1783. It started with just 13 states, but over the next two hundred years there were another 37 states that joined.

What are some important events in the history of the United States of America?

The United States of America won World War One and World War Two, but many people died. They also won another war called the Cold War against Russia where there was no actual fighting.

There was a civil war, or a war between the northern and southern parts of the country, between 1861 and 1865. This is known as the American Civil War. Many people died in this war. The northern side won the American Civil War.

Is the United States of America the most powerful nation in the world?

Many people say the United States of America is the most powerful country in the world. This is because the country is very wealthy compared to many other countries. In the United States of American more grown-ups have jobs and things don't cost as much as in some other countries. Also, in the United States of America there are many inventors and technology is improving all the time.

How many states are there in the United States of America?

There are 50 states in the United States of America. Most of them are next to each other, but Alaska is near the north pole and Hawaii is in the Pacific Ocean. Some states are much larger than others.

Each state has its own government and its own laws, or rules. There is a Federal Government that can make laws that are different from the laws of state governments. Each state government can be found in a city or town called a state capital.
