When you swim you move yourself through the water. You can use something to help you float. If you are good at swimming, you can race at special compeititions.

What is freestyle?

Freestyle is the most popular type of swimming. In freestyle you move your arms in circles in and out of the water. Some people think of freestyle as ‘normal’ swimming.

What is backstroke?

Backstroke is a special type of swimming where you lie on your back with you face out of the water looking at the sky or at the ceiling. It is important to keep your bum up when you are doing backstroke.

What is breast stroke?

Breast stroke is with the face down while the arms are extended together in front of the head and swept back on either side accompanied by a frog kick.

What is the butterfly stroke?

Butterfly stroke is when the arms are thrown forward at the same time out of the water, being brought back around under water and done over again, while the feet are kicking up and down.
