Softball

Softball is a sport like baseball, but the rules are different.

These are the main differences it has from baseball:

  • you have to throw the ball underarm.
  • you can't steal bases.
  • there is one more player in the outfield.
  • the field is smaller.
  • a softball is bigger than a baseball.
  • the game doesn't take as long.

    Glossary

    Strike-A pitched ball that is 'against the batter'. This usually happens when the batter swings and misses, fouls, or when the ball goes through the 'strike zone'.
    Ball-A pitched ball that is 'against the pitcher'. This happens when the ball goes through the 'strike zone' and and the batter does not swing.
    Foul Ball-A ball that is hit is wide. The hit is a strike if the batter has less than three strikes.
    Fair Ball-When a ball is hit and isn't a foul.
