What is special about parks?

Parks are full of living things - trees, flowers, birds and animals. Look and listen, but don't touch! Every park looks different. Some parks have seashores, lakes or even mountains. Other parks have rivers, deserts or even city streets. But all parks are special places where you can hike or play or just sit and think.

Many people work at parks to make them enjoyable to you. Park Rangers protect and preserve the park, do research about interesting things and teach visitors about things. If you have questions, ask a Park Ranger.

How do I stay safe in parks?

If you want to stay safe, there are some things you should always do.

  • Always stay with a grown-up.
  • Never try to pet wild animals.
  • Do what the park staff and park signs tell you.

Why do some parks have statues or monuments?

Some parks help us remember and honor important people and events in history, especially in our own country's history. When you see a statue or monument in a park, stop and read about it or ask an adult what it stands for. You might learn something interesting or exciting!
