Setting Up Fires

used for a number of different tasks including heating, cooking, drying and emergency smoke signals
find a selection of kindling and firewood before making fire
look for any existing fireplaces and use those if possible, or otherwise:
set up fireplace in sheltered area downwind from tent, away from large logs or trees
to set up a fireplace, surround three sides of a four-sided shape with rocks, and keep size small
clear the inside of the fireplace of twigs and leaves
place things like stones, dead wood and firewood inside
light the fire with matches (should be stored in waterproof zip-lock bag)
once lighted, you are responsible to maintain and put out the fire
rubber, dry paper and candle stubs may assist in burning
remember that dry objects burn best
be aware that dry burns best
clean up after yourself
