Defending

When you defend something in sports you try to stop the other team from getting a goal.

In a war, when soldiers defend something they try to stop it from getting attacked and protect it from other people trying to get to it. Places, like kingdoms, countries and cities, are defended by soldiers in wars.

War

A war is a fight between groups of people, usually between two sides that disagree on something or both want land. Most people think wars are not very good because many people get hurt or even killed.

Weapons

There are many different objects using for fighting in wars. These are called weapons. The most common types of weapons are swords and guns.

There are other types of weapons as well. A lance is a type of weapon that is a long spear that was used by Knights in medieval times.

Army

An army is a large group of people who have been trained to fight in wars on the land or to make peace. Armies use weapons like guns and swords. Some soldiers have heavy armour which covers them and tries to protect them from getting hurt.

Navy

A navy is like an army, but they travel on big ships or submarines. The navy get to a place from the sea, so they are used when the battlefield is on or near the sea.

Air Force

The air force is like the army, but they go everywhere by plane and may never land on the ground where the war is taking place.
