Chitarra elettrica 1928 USA: George Beauchamp con l'aiuto dell'artigiano Harry Watson, costruisce il primo prototipo di chitarra elettrica.
1931 USA: George Beauchamp e Paul Barth sviluppano il primo sistema elettromagnetico per chitarra elettrica, applicato allo strumento costruito da Adolph Rickenbacker; insieme a quest'ultimo fondano l'Electro String Company per realizzare chitarre elettriche hawaiane, chiamate Rickenbackers.
