    Abbe's String Method

  • Division of oespophageal stricture using string. This involves passage of a string through the mouth and a gastric fistula. The string is then pulled gently up and down till the stricture is divided so that a bougie may be easily passed.

    Abbe-Zeiss Counting Cell

  • Glass receptacle at bottom of a microscope slide with the bottom divided into minute squares. The squares enable counting of white and red corpuscles in blood. (It is also known as Thoma-Zeiss Counting Cell).

  • William Abbot, English physician, (1831-). Paste used to kill the nerve of a tooth. Ingredients include arsenous acid, morphine and creosote.
