Overview

Kenneth H. Cooper introduced aerobic conditioning in 1968 with his book Aerobics. He further developed the concept in his 1977 release of The Aerobics Way. The basic principle of aerobics is to perform rapid motions, thus increasing the muscular demands for oxygen. Additional physiologic effects include increasing body temperature, energy demands, and heart rate. These would supposedly provide the benefits of reducing fat and improving the cardiovascular system.
