  • 340 mL (12 oz) of beer
  • 115 mL (4 oz) of nonfortified wine
  • 43 mL (1.5 oz) (a shot) of 80-proof beverage


80 grams can be found in
  • 1 L of wine


160 grams can be found in
  • 0.5 L (1 pint) of 86-proof beverage


A level of 0.02 to 0.03 results from the ingestion of one to two typical drinks.

Alcohol or Ethanol

  • Ethanol moves freely across cellular membranes and rapidly reaches a balance or equilibrium between blood and tissue.
  • The concentration of alcohol / ethanol in the blood relates to its consumption related to the drinker's body weight.
  • Blood alcohol levels in the blood are expressed as grams or milligrams per deciliter (0.10 g/dL or 100 mg/dL).
