Name Reviewer Quote Score Date
GameSpy.com (Nintendo DS) Phil Theobald Granted, the concept of staring at a screen full of black and white squares for minutes on end looking for the correct line to draw may not sound like the most exciting game out there, but for those who appreciate a good mental challenge, it's a treat. 4 out of 5 2005-April-18
IGN.com (Nintendo DS) Craig Harris The two-color concept works in some areas and doesn't in others, but overall it's a puzzle game that's not like anything you've played before, and the little elements, like multiplayer and puzzle creation, add a lot to an extremely minimal package. 7.8 out of 10 2005-April-15
G4TV.com (Nintendo DS) Jason D'Aprile Simple, yet fun, Polarium is an engaging puzzle game. It proves that the touch screen can be used for more than gimmicks. Though not flawless, or great, this is a solid puzzle game for fans of Tetris and Mr. Driller. 3 out of 5 2005-May-19
GameSpot.com (Nintendo DS) Jeff Gerstmann ...if staring at a brainteaser for lengthy periods of time is your idea of excitement, or if the idea of creating puzzles and sharing them with like-minded friends is intriguing to you, then you'll find enough enjoyable mind-benders to make this worth a purchase. 6.9 out of 10 2005-April-15
Pro-G.co.uk (Nintendo DS) Tom Orry I can't remember a game in recent years that has revolved around such a simple idea, yet been so utterly addictive. 8 out of 10 ?
DSGaming.co.uk jumpman It's great if you love puzzle games and a challenge; frustratingly dull if you don't. 7.8 out of 10 2005-April-08
GBA.N64Europe.com (Nintendo DS) Andrew Blanchard Even with its obvious merits though it's not going to appeal to everyone but if you've just beaten Zoo Keeper or even mastered the GameBoy Classic Tetris, then this should probably be your next stop. 7.5 out of 10 ?

General Information

Polarium is a puzzle game controlled entirely through the touch screen of the Nintendo DS. Several modes are available, but the primary goal in each is to clear out grids of tiles. Tiles can be black, white, or gray. If an entire row consists of one color (black or white), it vanishes and points are received. Tiles can be changed to their opposite colors by moving the stylus over them in one stroke. Gray tiles do not flip - they are only found around the border of the grid, and are there so that a path can reach the other side of the grid.

Polarium supports wireless single-game multiplayer for up to two players. The Nintendo DS unit must be turned on its side - the touch screen is the player's grid, and the upper screen reveals the opponent's grid. When a row of tiles is cleared it moves over to the opponent's grid. The first player to clear their grid wins (or the player whose grid becomes completely full loses).
