Overview

Karaoke Revolution is a music game much in the same vein as Dance Dance Revolution. In this game, the player uses a special microphone, complete with headset, plugged into the console to sing along with words and music on the screen.

Gameplay

To begin playing a round of Karaoke Revolution, the player first selects one of eight characters, each with four different outfits. There are also several backgrounds to enhance the player's performance, ranging from a garage to a lighted stage.

After a song is selected, the game will begin. Across the bottom of the screen, flat horizontal bars will scroll from right to left, each representing the pitch and length of each note of the song. Underneath these bars are the lyrics. The player must sing the lyrics in time with the song, while also singing each note in pitch. The game will score the player on accuracy in rhythm as well as accuracy in pitch. However, the game does not possess voice recognition, therefore correct lyrics are not necessary. Difficulty settings change the accuracy required to pass the song, with Expert being a pitch-perfect performance.

The game divides each song into one or two-line segments for the purpose of scoring, in contrast to other music games which score every note or step. The ratings range from Poor to Expert. The better the rating, the more special effects to happen on-screen. Some of these effects include the player's character will start to glow, fireworks will go off, and the on-screen audience will start cheering.
