Released in 2002 for the Nintendo Gamecube, Metroid Prime is the first game in the Metroid series to be developed within a 3D environment. On top of this, the series has also taken a new direction by utilizing a first person perspective style of gameplay but at the same time retaining many of the gameplay mechanics that has made the series a classic. The story events within the game takes place between the events of the first Metroid and Metroid II.
