Story Introduction

In the year 2000 during the evolution of the cosmos, leaders of various planets united to establish a congress known as the Galactic Federation in an attempt to establish a fair and structured world to enable society to grow and prosper. Under the guidance of this new federation, individuals of various cultures began to associate with each other and a new civilization began to develop. High-tech forms of transportation such as interstellar spaceships were developed and society flourished in using these methods of transportation to travel and exchange products between the galaxy's planets. All seemed well in this new society. However, devious groups known as space pirates eventually began to attack these spaceships in hopes to retrieve valuable goods and to demonstrate their authority. To combat these space pirates, the federal bureau established a force unit known as the Galactic Federation Police.

Even with the development of this new police organization, the space pirates proved to be difficult to control as their powerful weapons were extremely destructive and the amplitude of battling in space made it difficult to capture them. As a result of these deterrents, the federation began to recruit courageous and reputable warriors known as "Space Hunters" to aid in the battle against the space pirates. The addition of space hunters proved to be effective as pirates were being captured in greater numbers. To encourage the space hunters to capture more pirates, large amounts of financial rewards were offered for each pirate that was captured and space hunters adopted this lifestyle and became known as bounty hunters.

Present day, 20X5, the universe has continued to develop and battles are still being fought. Suddenly, recent reports indicate that a spaceship that was transporting a capsule containing an unknown life-form from the deserted planet SR388 has been attacked and seized by space pirates. While research about this life-form, which is currently in a state of hibernation, has not been completed, it is known that exposure to twenty-four hours worth of betas rays while it is awake enables it to multiply. Some people also believe that this life-form could possibly be the cause of destruction within the planet SR388. Federation researchers decided to name this life-form as a "Metroid"and the mere thought that it was now in the hands of the space pirates who could multiply it and use it as a destructive weapon was a risk that the federation was not willing to take. The federation then frantically launched search teams to locate the space pirates and they were fortunate enough to discover their main headquarters within the planet Zebes. The federation launched various attacks against the space pirates, but their forces were too strong and were unable to take control of them.

During this outside battle, operations to multiply the Metroid within the space pirate's headquarter was soon becoming a reality. Desperate for a solution, the federation decided that the only option left was to attempt to infiltrate the vicinity and destroy the leader of the space pirates known as the "Mother Brain." To make matters worse, the structure of the planet Zebes is a natural fortress that consists of a large maze constructed with a special form of stone material and scattered throughout the maze are various traps and allies of the space pirates. This mission clearly requires a special individual to complete this objective and so the federation has selected the most dominating space hunter of the entire organization to partake in this critical mission. This space bounty hunter is known as "Samus Aran".

Samus is known to be a cyborg who's entire body has been surgically enhanced with technological components which provides him with an uncanny amount of power. He has completed many lethal assignments that many considered impossible. Equipped with a powerful space suit that has the capabilities of absorbing offensive attacks, Samus is the only bounty hunter that the space pirates actually fear. Despite his well-known reputation, his true identity still lies within the unknown.

The first part of the mission is a success as Samus is now inside the interior of the fortress. With the fate of the galaxy in Samus's hands, only time will tell whether or not operations to cease the reproduction of Metroids and to destroy the Mother Brain will be successful.
