Spades is a trick capturing game that uses all 52 cards in a deck.
- Players partner up into teams of two, then bid when dealt hands of 13 cards. Tricks are taken by throwing the highest card of the suit lead. If players are out of the suit, they can play other suits (which do not count as anything) or spades (which beat everything but a higher spade).
- When players get less tricks than they bid, they are set and lose the number of tricks they bid multiplied by 10. If the team gets more tricks than were bid, they get one bag for each, which is a single point. When a team recieves 10 bags, they lose 100 points. When a player bids nothing (0), they are said to have bid nil and cannot take any tricks. If they succeed or fail, they gain or lose 100 respectively.
- The first team to 500 wins the game.
- When a player bids nil without looking at his or her hand, they are said to have gone Double Nil. The rewards or consequences are the same as in nil, only doubled.
