Firewalls

A firewall in terms of network security works the same way as a firewall works in a car. In a car it keeps the fumes and other dangerous objects away from the passenger(s) inside and only allows wanted things into the cars environment(Such as Heat, Air Conditioning, etc). A network firewall stops unauthorized network packets from entering the network it protects. Software mechanisms are used to configure the firewall and allow certain data from entering and leaving a network. Firewalls should be installed and used to protect multi-million dollar corporations, small businesses or small home networks. They can be essential to preventing attacks from hackers, new viruses or worms.
