If you are in charge of an enterprise level computing operation then anti-virus protection needs to be in place and up to date in many different facets of your business.
1.Border Firewalls and Proxy servers should have protection in place to prevent threats that can enter the network via web browsing.
2.Mail servers need anti-virus protection in place in the border SMTP relay servers as well as any internal data store servers (Exchange, Notes, etc).
--Rules on protection should drop messages that have executable code attached to incoming, outgoing and internal mail.
3.All data/file/NAS servers should have virus protection in place.
4.All client machines should have anti-virus software installed and up to date. A centrally managed system works well to deploy updates to several machines and should be included in the annual budgeting planning.
