FORTH, the name being a play on words, is one of the fastest high-level languages out there.

History

FORTH was created in 1970 to give computers real-time control over astronomical equipment. FORTH is an early example of a fourth generation language, and its title is a play on the wording.

It became popular in the late 1970s with the advent of personal computers because the language proved to be extensible, compact and relatively fast, certainly when compared to other languages of the day.

What It Can Do

Although out of date, because it is comprehensible, small, interactive, fast, and extensible, it is still used by some today.
