History

Blitz Basic was originally developed as a competitor language to the famous AMOS for the Commodore Amiga, back in 1992, and was released in 1993, by Acid Software. Although the code was similar to traditional BASIC syntax and structure, it included very C-like ideas, such as the Type construct. The language was easily the fastest dialect of BASIC on the machine, and its compiler very powerful and efficient.

Acid Software split up sometime in 1995, and the lead developer, Mark Sibly, began developing Blitz Basic for the PC, and it was released in 1999.

What It Can Do

The language is much improved in terms of what it can do (the infamous "Blitz" mode has been removed) and is far more suited to development for simple games on the PC.

Blitz Basic also exists with an add-on to build 3D games, which is released as Blitz3D.
