[ history ]

Konqueror is the combined file manager and Internet browser for more recent versions of KDE, a graphical frontend to the popular Linux operating system.

It supports all the major Internet technologies, including HTML 4.0, XML 1.0, JavaScript 1.1, Java, CSS, SSL, and Netscape plugins, making it as flexible as Netscape is for Linux.

However, it doubles as a file manager and document viewer, especially considering that more components can be added, such that it can view more types of documents.

It is considered a major part of KDE, and is typically included in the kdebase package, which is the core of KDE facilities.

Like the rest of the KDE packages and, indeed, much of the software avilable for Linux in general, the source code is freely available, so you can build your own customised version.
