Official Logo

One of the things that leaps out at any visitor to Google's homepage is its characteristic, but very simple, logo. The logo, for those that haven't seen it, has a colourful rainbow theme, with a blue G, red O, yellow O, blue G, green L and red E.

Today the logo is one of the world's most recognised, available as an image with white, grey and black backgrounds and various sizes to visitors on its website. But it wasn't always that way. A visit to the Internet Archive will reveal it was once just a very amateur-looking text word.

Themed Logos

In July 2006 a CNN article named a certain Dennis Hwang as one of the world's most highly-exposed artists - the creator of Google's hugely popular themed logos.

"People do enjoy kind of learning from a random design on their browser's home page," he told CNN of the job of holiday logo designer that he has held since 2006, which he described as "a fun kind of challenge".
