Search engines

Over the 21st century, searching the Internet has become a lot easier than it was, in the 1990s, users had a very small amount of database search with (in millions) and they didn't have much options as to limiting their query and getting what they want, now, almost every search engine has introduced something to clarify the results and let a re-search get what he/she wants, as well as giving a searcher a much larger amount of database to search with.

New search engines have come and taken places, old and popular search engines like Google and AltaVista have improved a lot since then, Google, at start had a very less amount of features and had a database of hardly 25 million, while AltaVista had many features from the start, but lacked in the quantity of the results. Now, both have become stronger, Google has a massive amount of database and many simple features that a searcher might like to use. On the other hand, AltaVista got a fair amount of database as well as added some new features, so both search engines have succeeded in their aim.

Each search engine has a unique sense of its algorithm and also a different weight of a database.

Algorithm is a process held by each and every search engine. Algorithm means how a search engine processes the query, many search engines have a similar algorithm of searching the web database, although, some search engines put that "something unique" in their algorithm which helps them give results more efficiently.

META search engines
A search engine's two parts are a "web spider" and a "algorithm"

Although, some search engines partnership with other engines, and deliver their results, mixed with other partners, which gives their users more choice. These are called META search engines. These search engines don't exactly have a web spider, but have a META spider, which crawls their partner search engines and feeds back their results.

Instead of just searching other search engines database with their algorithm some META search engines put their own algo and also some features like "keyword clustering" which also helps them clutter the results, so the users can get what they want


Pay Per Click Search Engine
Pay per click search engine provides webmasters and advertisers with targeted pay per click search engine positioning and search results ranking.

Unlike a search engine, it makes more money with displaying its GEO-targetted results into affiliates and paying them 30-60% amount of a bid for a result, rather than just displaying them at their own site.

PPCs are not aimed to give a user accurate results, but are a form of advertising.

The process

Each search engine has a unique process of gathering data, although they work on the same line.

Search engines have something called a "web spider" which is the main core of a search engine helping them gather data.

Each spider starts crawling the web by following links and downloading content into its own database.

Each search engine then processes a page and keeps it scheduled to appear in the database with the next update.

When a result is successfully added, it then can appear for certain search terms matching to a site's context.

After all this, it all depends on how much "search engine optimization" (SEO) a webmaster has done to a page making it appear for a result, SEO is a technique to make a result appear for certain targeted keywords, many people have chosen SEO as a occupation charging people to search engine optimize a page to a certain keyword, it may be a good technique but its certainly not right to fool search engines.
