Definition

Internal recruitment is when a business recruits one of their current employees for another job within the business. For example, a person working on the cash desk of a shop might successfully apply to become the manager of the shop.

Advantages

The following are some advantages of recruiting internally:

  • The employee will already have a good idea of the work to do.
  • The company already knows the person´s personality and ability.
  • It´s a cheaper method of recruiting.

Disadvantages

The following are some disadvantages of recruiting internally:

  • External applicants may have more qualifications.
  • External applicants may have ideas that internal applicants don´t.
