In a business, recruitment is the hiring of new staff. This is usually the job of the personnel department (human resources).

Reasons for Recruitment

The following are possible reasons as to why a business may decide to recruit new staff:

• An existing member of staff is leaving the company.
• An existing member of staff is promoted within the company.
• An existing member of staff is on long-term sick leave.
• An existing member of staff is on maternity leave.
• The company is expanding.
• The company may need more staff as a result of seasonal demand. For example, shops may require more staff at times like Christmas when there are often more customers.
