Earnings in the United States

Average weekly earnings of nonsupervisory workers in the telecommunications industry were $761 in 2002, significantly higher than average earnings of $506 in private industry. Twenty-four percent of employees in the industry are union members or covered by union contracts, compared with about 15 percent for all industries. Most telecommunications employees belong to 1 of 2 unions—the Communications Workers of America or the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
