The Knopf publishing group was founded in 1915 by Alfred A. Knopf and his wife Blanche W. Knopf.
It publishes both fiction and nonfiction including poetry and cookbooks.
There awards include 21 Nobel Prize authors; 29 National Book Awards; 49 Pulitzer Prizes and 25 National Book Critics Circle Awards among others.
In 1968 the firm passed to Robert Gottlieb and, in 1987, to Sonny Mehta.
In 1991 Knopf re-launched Everyman´s Library , a series of classics of world literature in affordable hardcover editions, originally published at the turn of the century in England. The series had hundreds of volumes, and also included Children´s Classics and Pocket Poets.
